Chinese Rice Buckets

I scored three gorgeous antique rice buckets at an antique store this weekend for $35 each! These were traditionally used to gather rice and grain in China. I haven’t fully committed to their use yet, but all three will probably end up in my bathroom as they are great for holding books, magazines, towels, and orchids! I love the character of the wood and the ancient appeal of them.

  1. Oh my gosh, I have some of these! They're smaller, and have Chinese symbols on them. I was told they were used for measuring out units of rice. I ended up putting real rice in them, sticking tealight candles in the rice, and decorating my bathroom with them. I got them for $4 while I was on my honeymoon! They're great.

  2. Hi Hannah! Cool that you have some of these. I'd read that some were used for gathering and others for measuring. Please send me some pics of yours as I'm interested in seeing how you used them! (btw, I'm jealous of your $4 steal! Where did you honeymoon?)
